You can currently grab some free stuff through Steam as we speak, but you don’t have long to enjoy it all before it disappears for good.

That’s right folks, it’s Steam Fest time!

This month, we're being treated to the Steam 4X Fest... but what is a "4X", I hear you ask?

According to Steam, the 4X Fest revolves around the four Exs; Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate. That’s a fancy way of saying that it’s a strategy game fest.

The 4X Fest is currently only running until 18 August, which means that you only have 48 hours left to take advantage of any of the current sales and also redeem your Points Shop freebies.

So, what’s up for grabs in Points Shop at the moment? For now, you can redeem the Advancing Army animated avatar, the Forest Frame avatar frame, and the Castle Construction animated sticker.

If you want some recommendations for sales to take advantage of or free games/demos to try though, here’s a few I picked out of the list.

First up, you've got CivIdle, an idler base building game from developer and publisher FishPond. This one is completely free to play, and it's got a 75% positive review score (as of writing).

There's also Warnament, a sandbox strategy game from developer and publisher Luden.io. This one has an 87% positive rating, and there's both a free demo and a 25% off sale throughout the 4X Fest.

And finally, there's Heart of the Machine, a turn-based strategy game from developers Arcen Games and publisher Hooded Horse. No freebies for this one, but it is currently 35% off and it has a 92% positive review score with over 1,000 reviews.

Whatever element of the 4X Fest you decide to take advantage of, just make sure you do it quick before the event ends on 18 August!
