Steam Strikes Again, Bans NSFW Gooner RPG

Developer jiggles (sorry) juggles its options

Steam strikes again, but rather than being banned, a developer of an NSFW RPG has made the decision not to be on the PC platform.

In recent months, especially, there’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the Steam platform, with certain games being banned for multiple reasons, whether it’s accusations towards payment and credit companies or games that may include unsavoury content.

One recent game that has been making headlines is Horses, banned not only on Steam but also on the Epic Games Store. I won’t go into detail, but one of the reasons why its sexualised content was so controversial, which resulted in a ban, was due to the inclusion of young characters (not actors).

The developer of Horses, Santa Ragione Game Studio, had edited some of the controversial content, but at the time of writing, it wasn't enough for some platforms to lift the ban.

Browndust2 Is Not Coming To Steam

Now, as picked up by GameRadar, I guess in an attempt to get ahead of any potential Steam ban, the developer of BrownDust2, NEOWIZ, has decided not to release the game on the PC platform, despite being available on Android and iOS since 2023.

“We have been preparing for a Steam launch for a long time, but during coordination with the platform’s policy requirements, we encountered an issue that cannot be reasonably resolved with the current version of the game,” said the developer/publisher in a statement issued this week.

“We considered multiple options to make the release possible, but in order to preserve the game’s core direction and overall quality, we came to the conclusion that making the necessary adjustments at this time would not be appropriate.

“We are currently exploring alternative PC platforms that can provide a better environment for BrownDust2, and once a direction is confirmed, we will share the details with you as soon as possible.

“We sincerely apologise for not being able to meet your expectations this time, and we will do our best to repay your support with a more stable and satisfying service. Thank you.”

While exact details weren't given, such as specific content, it seems like the developer did not want to heavily compromise its vision and rush out a Steam release. Which is fair regardless of what you may or may not think of the content.

I guess BrownDust2 may still be released on Steam one day, but I wouldn't recommend holding your breath. It might be worth keeping track of the NEOWIZ socials for updates on other PC platforms.
