Steam is currently going through another of one of its many events and there is some great stuff on offer, including some totally free cosmetics to add to your profile customisation collection.

The Steam 4X Fest is set to run until 18 August, and aims to show off the best and brightest in the 4X strategy genre. As part of that, you can head over to the Steam Points Store page for the event and you should be greeted with some nice options, totally on the house.

The Advancing Army Animated Avatar, Forest Frame and the Castle Construction Animated Sticker can all be picked up while the event is active, but there's plenty more to be on the lookout for.

Over on the main page for the event, almost all of the 4X heavy hitters are now available at a cut price, with many having entirely free demos you can play first to make sure the game is your kind of thing.

Paradox standout galactic empire builder Stellaris is 75% off and, even at full price, it's well worth picking up for replayability alone.

Sid Meier fans will also be able to expand their Civilization collections at less than RRP, including the ever-improving Civilization VII and the all time great Civilization V.

The more historically focused amongst you can also wade in on Hearts of Iron IV, to play out large scale WW2 combat in a genuinely detailed campaign simulator.

The Total War series (while not 4X) also appears on the store page for the event, but be warned that those all appear to be full price at the time of writing.

There are plenty more great options on the list of discounted games from some of the genre's best developers, so go and have a browse to see what takes your fancy the most.
