Steam has just dropped a new free demo for the upcoming cosy magical RPG Songs of Glimmerwick.
For fans of cosy games and adventure games like Stardew Valley and Pokémon Pokopia, the upcoming Songs of Glimmerwick from Eastshade Studios might be one that’s right up your alley.
It’s set in the land of Glimmerwick, a place known for its affinity to magic and fantasy happenings in the woodland.
You play as a student who has enrolled at the magical university, where you will learn to play music which holds the key to casting magic.

Using a fully customisable character, you use the power of music to perform various magical spells, allowing you to speak with the trees, enchant tools, and raise the earth itself.
As a life sim game, Songs of Glimmerwick puts a focus on developing your character and engaging with the various main and side activities the game has to offer.
This includes attending regular classes where you can learn new songs, engaging with local drama, and befriending the various students, staff, and townsfolk located around Glimmerwick.

Songs of Glimmerwick also includes a rather stacked voice cast from the indie games space, including Jonathan Bullock, Hannah Hebblethwaite, and Elizabeth Plant (who we actually interviewed last year).
If it’s anything like Eastshade Studios’ previous game (appropriately also called Eastshade), I’d imagine the game is going to have a low-stakes plot, but with plenty of character drama and relaxing spaces to play around in.
That can make for quite a compelling game, especially for fans of the cosy genre who want something a bit slower paced.
In case you fancied checking it out, Songs of Glimmerwick now has a free demo available on Steam for you to check out.
The demo consists of a small chunk of the full game, where feedback will be taken on board to improve the game in time for launch.
As for when the final release of the game is expected, the date on the store page simply says ‘2026’, so I imagine we probably won’t hear about that for quite some time yet while players provide feedback on the demo.
Still though, be sure to check this out if you have any interest in magical cosy games that blend RPG storytelling with life simulation gameplay.
