Did life exist before Palworld? It doesn’t feel like it. Since the game was released – mere days ago – it’s become one of the most talked about games in a long time. But it isn’t only talk this game is generating, it’s sales too.

We were all blown away when Palworld hit three million players in its first weekend, yet that wasn’t enough for this game. Oh no, it had to keep growing, becoming a viral sensation that’s widely praised and criticised at the same time.

Now Palworld has exceeded expectations again, selling six million copies in only four days. Due to this staggering feat, it’s now Steam’s largest paid game ever, which is an incredible accolade to walk away with considering Game of the Year 2023 Baldur’s Gate 3 is on there, as well as everyone’s favourite Skyrim.

“At this rate Palworld will beat both Skyrim and Legends Arceus in first week sales (~7 million each),” said one fan. Given how quickly the game has gathered traction, this seems like a target the new game will easily beat.

Part of its charm, besides being about catching monsters, I mean, Pals, is the fact you can do outrageous activities like capture and sell humans. Not one to shy away from the dark underbelly of life, Palworld is giving NPCs Pals and human alike equality when it comes to being used to further your character’s gains.

Don't be the last one to see the Palworld trailer!

Still, to see Pocket Pair’s game climb up the sales ladder so fast is still a surprise. “I honestly thought it would have slowed down by five million. Hitting six million already is insane,” posted one gamer. “ [I] wonder if the people virtue signalling is only helping bring more eyes to the game.”

The controversy surrounding the game’s similarities to Pokémon is undoubtedly playing a role in its success. But we suspect that there’s more to its allure than being yet another monster catching game – as our very own Dan Lipscombe said, it’s “a great survival game that’s more than ‘Pokémon with guns’.”

If you want to add to those rocketing Palworld sales, the game is available on Xbox and Steam.
