Steam Rolls Out a Popular New Gifting Budget Feature, Valve Keeps Winning

A timely change

I think we can all agree that giving people gifts is a nice thing to do and (as long as you're not a sociopath), it should give you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

As we're all presumably gamers here, you may find yourself wanting to buy that special someone some pixelated goodness, but doing so is arguably a lot more complicated than it was back in the day.

Whilst it used to simply be a case of buying a disc or cartridge in a box, a lot of the time gamers in 2026 need to receive their gaming goodies digitally.

As the most popular platform of its type, Steam is often the best place to do this, and it's about to get a whole lot better, thanks to the addition of a new and highly requested feature that should save generous gifters plenty of money in the long run.

As noted by SteamDB on Twitter/X, Steam is now allowing players to buy "complete the set" versions of bundles to gift to others, in a move that's a notable change to the previous system.

Essentially, you will now be able to gift bundles that subtract the cost of DLC items or individual games that the person you're gifting to already owns, whilst leaving the ones they don't as part of the bundle.

It should save money and prevent unnecessary products from being bought, and it's safe to say that fans are massively on board with the change under the original post.

"Finally! I wanted to gift the entire Binding of Isaac DLC and it wont let me do it," one comment read.

"This is huge, thank you!" another added.

Over on Reddit, fans hearing the news were also delighted, with one saying, "Heck yeah. Totally gifting friends the Valve Complete Pack cuz they never got it."

There are some really solid deals on bundles all across Steam, so just check in to the storefront to see if there's anything you fancy getting for a friend or family member.

You shouldn't need to do anything to get it to work either. Instead, when you go to gift one of the bundles to someone who owns some of the items, the price should automatically reduce by the right amount. You can double check by referring to the store page for the intended price of the full bundle.
