Assassin's Creed Black Flag meets Baldur's Gate 3 in free Steam download

Pirates and dice rolls are a good combo

Steam has a game coming later this year that will combine some of gaming’s more successful templates to hopefully bring us a new title to fall in love with.

Seemingly cobbling together the piratical adventures of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag with the dice-rolling and combat from RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3, we’ve got what looks to be an engaging adventure.

For more RPG adventures you'll need look no further than Dragon Age: The Veilguard available later this month.

Flint: Treasure of Oblivion will follow the story of pirates on the search for riches with a hand-crafted crew in tow.

The free demo for the game will go live later today as part of the next big demo festival for Steam, Next Fest, and it’ll give players the chance to experience everything the game has to offer.

As this is a tactical RPG, you’ll likely already be familiar with the isometric view and the turn-based battling seen in the trailers and across the screenshots.

There are plenty of moments where, in dire straits, the crew makes choices prompting a good old-fashioned dice roll, so if you’re a tabletop fan you might get a little more out of this title.

And who doesn’t love a pirate adventure? This one seems to be filled with all the hallmarks of pirate stories we’ve seen over countless years, with creepy caves, deserted islands, and spooky enemies that appear to be cursed.

What makes Flint: Treasure of Oblivion stand out from the crowd is the use of comic book panels to tell the game’s story.

Popping up with full-colour artwork that journey is narrated as if it’s a choose-your-own-adventure comic, with some lovely touches from what we’ve seen, so far.

If you’re on the look out for your next TRPG fix since you’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3 to death, then it’s worth checking out the demo later and adding this to your wishlist.
