The first Red Dead Redemption game is a completely different experience when it’s played in first-person mode.

While Red Dead Redemption 2 surpassed it on almost every level, the first Red Dead Redemption game had a charm to it that can’t be ignored.

No wonder fans were excited to see it finally return with a remaster so many years later

The modern console version of the game could have been better though, as it was more of a touch-up than the fully-fledged remaster/remake we’d dreamed of.

Fortunately PC users can transform the game into whatever they want thanks to mods, and one such mod completely changes the game’s perspective by introducing a first-person mode.

First-person mode was a given in Red Dead Redemption 2 as GTA V had it previously, but no such option was added in the modern port of the first Red Dead game.

You can try the new mode for free via NexusMods, and while it’s not as flawless as Rockstar Games’ version it works quite well and offers a unique way to play we didn’t have before.

It at least makes horse riding and gun fights more exciting, and it’d be an absolute game changer for the Undead Nightmare mode which is in dire need of a comeback at some point in the future.

If Rockstar Games ever does decide to return to Red Dead Redemption for a remake, it needs to add an official first-person mode to the game.

It could also do with an expansion or two to bring the map size up to Red Dead Redemption 2’s standards…

Red Dead Redemption is still a fantastic game, and it’s well-worth another playthrough if it’s been a while, even more so if it’s your first time playing. It’s also technically a sequel to the second game so if you started with that one that should be next on your list.
