Red Dead Redemption 2 players think they've finally identified Gavin

Red Dead Redemption 2 players think they've finally identified Gavin

Gavin, is that really you?

The identity of the elusive Gavin in Red Dead Redemption 2 might have finally been discovered. Needless to say, fans are quite excited about that prospect.

As any Red Dead Redemption 2 fan will tell you, the mystery surrounding Gavin – both the character and the voice actor – has been prominent since the game’s launch. Much like the strangest Skyrim mystery, Gavin’s identity has been widely speculated and talked about.

Until now. According to a Reddit thread, Rockstar Games’ Gavin is Gavin Free, an English internet personality and actor.

Outlaw for life or not, who is Red Dead Redemption 2's Gavin?

Before you all rush to say this case is now closed, allow us to throw a slight spanner in the works: there is no definitive proof here, simply a combination of speculation, analysis, and circumstantial evidence.

Consequently, there's still so much mystery surrounding this that one gamer thinks that’s the whole point of Gavin, “I think the writing of characters like him is deliberately left open ended as a kind of world building rather than having some clear answer, same with most of the big mysteries in the series.” They added, “Honestly, I think the fact that people still look for logic in the strangeness years later it's a sign it worked.”

Others remark on how they prefer believing a different theory. “I don’t know, I like the theory that one of the developers or something (whose name was Gavin, so maybe it’s the guy you’re referring to) didn’t show up one day and everyone was like: ‘Where’s Gavin?’ and they put it in the game as a joke.”

Whoever this Gavin really is, he’s helped create an unforgettable character that still lives in our heads, rent free, to this day.
