Red Dead Redemption fans are over the moon with the latest PlayStation game announcement, which they think could be even better than Red Dead Redemption 2.

Last night Sony held another State Of Play showcase, revealing some upcoming games for the PlayStation 5 as well as what games will be joining PlayStation Plus next month. The publisher ended the broadcast with the surprise announcement of Ghost Of Yōtei, a sequel to Ghost Of Tsushima.

The sequel will follow a new protagonist in a new region, and in a surprise turn of events Red Dead Redemption fans seem to be the most excited about it.

In a post on X user Gene Park reacted to the new announcement, drawing comparisons to what’s considered to be Rockstar Games’ best game to date.

Gene Park said “the ‘Red Dead’ aura of ghost is definitely intentional, from the music to “The Searchers” shot. samurai films inspired cowboy films, so the influence is circling back in games. the 2 archetypes are linked in pop art.”

Other fans agreed, like one viewer who praised the fashion choices in the upcoming game, believing “a stylized kasa as a stand-in for a stetson is honestly genius for a game like this, made in the West but deeply respectful of its Eastern roots.”

“The western vibes were in fact all over this trailer” read a different comment, and another said “I guess we’re in a samurai/western era of gaming.”

If you’re wondering when this seemingly fantastic title is heading to your PlayStation consoles, you’ve unfortunately got quite a while to wait, but surely it’ll be worth it.

Ghost Of Yōtei will launch on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2025, though an exact release date hasn’t been shared at the time of writing.
