The Last of Us Part III has gamers united over it being the final chapter in the popular Naughty Dog series.
When The Last of Us first launched on the PlayStation 3 in 2013, it instantly became one of the best games of its generation. In fact, many would consider it to be one of the best video games of all time, as reflected by its 95 score on Metacritic.
To capitalise on its success for years to come, developer Naughty Dog would release a remaster for The Last of Us on PlayStation 4 the following year. Since then, it’s also received a remake and a sequel (oh, and the sequel got a remaster, too).
I’ll give nothing away, but 2020’s The Last of Us Part II was one heck of an emotional rollercoaster, and that’s probably an understatement. Its ending was very sombre, but the door was left open should Naughty Dog decide to release a third game in the series.

At the time of writing, The Last of Us Part III hasn't been officially announced. The best we’ve had is that Naughty Dog chief, Neil Druckmann, might consider it, if its story is justified. But let’s be honest, we all know it’ll happen at some point.
However, during a recent interview with Variety, the conversation of The Last of Us Part III was raised with Neil Druckmann.

“When we finished The Last of Us Part II, and that was highly successful for us, we were debating whether we should just go straight into The Last of Us Part III,” he said.
Naturally, this brief mention of The Last of Us Part III by Neil Druckmann has got fans' tongues wagging and some calling for it to be its final chapter.
“I need Part III in the next eight years. It needs a final chapter,” said Redditor ShamrockStudios.
“Would be genuinely bereft if they just left it there,” replied Royal-Pay9751, referring to the prospect of The Last of Us Part II being the final game. “I’ve no doubt there will be more games in the universe, it’s too good to leave behind, but so many people just want one more story with Ellie.”

“Ellie's story is in no way finished for me,” added ShamrockStudios. “And based on how Neil has talked in recent years, I don't think it is for him either. In my opinion, Part II needs a sequel more than Part I.”
“I only want Part III if its story is worthy enough to tell. I think Part II ended perfectly, so I'd hate another one for the sake of having another one,” explained Parabola1313.
There’s no official word as to when the unannounced The Last of Us Part III will be released, but we at least know that it should arrive after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which is likely to arrive sometime in 2026 on PlayStation 5.
