Sony and Naughty Dog have teamed up to bring players a brand new update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and fans of having their cake and eating it too are going to want to check it out.

As revealed in a trailer on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, a PlayStation 5 Pro enhanced update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered is finally here.

The update introduces a brand new “Pro Mode” for the game, which simultaneously targets 60 frames per second and renders the game in 4K using PSSR.

Prior to the PS5 Pro's launch, your main two options for The Last of Us Part II Remastered were Fidelity Mode and Unlocked Framerate Mode. The former allowed you to play in 4K, and the latter allowed you to target higher frame rates.

Now, with the new Pro Mode, you get the best of both worlds, allowing The Last of Us Part II Remastered to look pretty and smooth at the same time.

There’s also a brand new Pro Mode update for the first The Last of Us Remastered too if you’re curious, which targets similar changes.

Over on Eurogamer, Digital Foundry’s Oliver Mackenzie’s write up of the newly introduced Pro Modes was generally positive.

“Overall, I'd say that the PS5 Pro patches for the two contemporary Last of Us titles are successful,” stated Mackenzie.

“Naughty Dog has delivered on the PS5 Pro promise here by essentially delivering a solid 4K60 visual mode in both games. Plus, the FPS boost with unlocked frame-rates on VRR displays is substantial relative to the base console, with frame-rates often in excess of 100fps with the performance preset.”

Nice to see that the new mode is succeeding what it’s set out to achieve, especially considering that some PlayStation 5 Pro updates haven’t worked out for the best so far…
