Sony is making a major change for a brand that has been with us since the PlayStation 3 era, and it’s going to take some getting used to.
The PlayStation Network, or PSN in its short form, has been with us since November 2006 on the PS3. For gamers on the Sony brand, it’s a feature that has been with us every day, whether we play online or make purchases via its digital store.
PlayStation Network Will Have a New Name
As reported by Insider Gaming, Sony is rebranding the PlayStation Network/PSN, and it will be phased out soon. An email has been sent to developers by Sony, which in turn has been reportedly seen by the video game media outlet.
“We’d like to inform you that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has strategically decided to phase out the terms “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” across our platform in order to properly capture the breadth of our evolving digital services.”
What Will PSN’s New Name Be?
Sony hasn't announced what the new name will be, and I would assume that with the new name will come a new logo. Only time will tell.

Will the PlayStation Network Service Be Impacted?
No, not according to Sony. All that will change is the branding; services such as online gaming and the digital store will remain the same.
“All features currently associated with PSN, including core network features such as friends, multiplayer, and trophies, will remain unaffected and available to players,” the email read.
When Will This Change Happen?
While there is no specific date, the change is expected to happen in September this year.
What Is the PlayStation Community Saying?
“Yeah, it’s kind of an outdated concept, can’t think of the last time I’ve seen the PSN logo that’s in the article,” said Reddit user Fallout-with-swords.
“Let’s solve an issue that no one thought was a problem!” replied i_am_a_lurker69.
“I just hope they don't shut down the PS3 store for this,” exclaimed a concerned ThePhant0mThief. Sadly, that will probably happen at some point.
As someone on the Reddit thread said, just like when Twitter rebranded to X, everyone will still probably call it PSN anyway. We’ll keep you updated when Sony reveals the new name for the PlayStation Network and PSN.
