Horizon players are hopefully excited this week after yesterday’s new game announcement, Horizon Hunter’s Gathering.
They shouldn’t be too excited as it’s not a continuation of Aloy’s journey from Horizon Forbidden West.
In fact we’re got no idea when the third Horizon game is coming but no news is sometimes good news.
While they wait players have been blessed with a new co-op title that’ll see you team-up with other hunters and take on intense missions out in the wildlands.

It looks like a huge departure from the series’ norm not just in terms of gameplay but graphics too.
After checking out the announcement for myself I think I might actually prefer this artstyle to the original.
Once you’ve found hunters to play with you’ll take on a wide-variety of bosses seen in the series so far as well as some new threats too.
Aside from your normal weapons each hunter will also be equipped with a special ability, so when forming your team you’ll probably have to keep synergy in the back of your mind for the best chances of success.

At the time of writing the game doesn’t have a release date.
But, while you wait, Guerrilla Games and PlayStation need the players’ help.

Feedback on this new project is paramount so the developers are inviting PlayStation 5 and PC owners to take part in several playtests in the build-up to launch day, the first of which starts at the end of the month.
How Can I Claim My Playtest Spot?
All you need to do in order to take part is check out the PlayStation blog talking about the game and follow the link at the end to the playtest sign-up.
There’s also a Discord where you can stay up-to-date with these playtests as well as other news on the game.
What’s really good is it doesn’t actually matter whether you play on PlayStation 5 or PC, as cross-progression between both platforms will be supported so you can switch to either one depending on what’s easier.
While Horizon Hunter’s Gathering doesn’t look like my cup of tea, I know there are plenty of Horizon fans out there who’ll get a kick out of it.
It feels like a prime game to play while you wait for news on the third game in the series.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of the playtests!
