The Order of the Sinking Star has been released, and it may boast PlayStationâs hardest ever Platinum Trophy.
Jonathan Blowâs latest puzzler has already impressed players, sitting at a very respectacle score of 4.99 out of five on the PlayStation Store, correct at the time of writing.
It fared decently well with critics too, achieving a score of 83 on Metacritic - and I should mention that the game is available across PC and Nintendo Switch 2 as well.
Itâs only on PlayStation 5, though, that you can chase down that coveted Platinum Trophy and, as observed by True Trophies, it may just be one of the hardest ever to obtain.
Advert
The Order of the Sinking Star features over 1,400 individual puzzles and according to creator Jonathan Blow, it could take you around 500 hours to reach 100% completion.
Youâre probably seeing where this is going.
You do not need to complete 1,400 puzzles in order to roll credits on The Order of the Sinking Star but it looks as if you may have to if you want the gameâs Platinum.
Simply titled âCompletionistâ, the Platinum tasks players with finishing âevery puzzle in the overworldâ.
At this stage, it canât be totally guaranteed that it means every single in-game puzzle as itâs too early to know whatâs considered an overworld puzzle and what isnât.
Whatever the figure is though, itâs likely not to be far off 1,400 puzzles.
When you bring in what Blow said about a completionist playthrough taking 500 hours, itâs going to be a long while before anyone secures this Platinum.
Youâll be pleased to know that the vast majority of trophies look far easier to secure.
There are many pertaining to secret and hidden objectives, but players will also be rewarded for simply working through the various segments of the main campaign.

Critics have dubbed The Order of the Sinking Star âinventiveâ and âbeautifulâ

If this is the first youâre hearing of The Order of the Sinking Star, you may be familiar with developer Blowâs prior games, Braid and The Witness.
The Order of the Sinking Star is set in a magical realm and is basically played across a series of grids with players needing to traverse said grids.
Itâs, perhaps rather obviously, more complicated than that. Almost every puzzle builds on the formula, introducing new obstacles, gameplay mechanics, playable characters, and more.
There are four main worlds to explore and you can âcome and go as you likeâ, undertaking puzzles at your own pace.
Youâll be able to command a queen, thief, warrior, wizard, and talking boat - all of whom boast their own unique abilities.
The Order of the Sinking Star prides itself on just how narrative driven it is. As you progress through the gameâs puzzles, âpiece by piece and clue by clue, youâll uncover the secrets of the Order of the Sinking Starâ.
âOrder of the Sinking Star is a demanding and inventive puzzle adventure that constantly finds new ways to challenge your understanding of its rules,â Noisy Pixel said, awarding a perfect score of 10/10.
ComicBook awarded a score of eight, writing, âOrder of the Sinking Star is the kind of puzzle game that continually finds new ways to surprise you, whether through another clever mechanic, a beautiful new environment, or an unexpected story moment.â
It sounds as if this is one weâll definitely hear pop up during awards season. I think whoever nabs that Platinum first deserves an award too.
