PlayStation users surprised with free PS Plus, but you don't have long

PlayStation has dropped a fun little surprise just in time for the weekend.

For those of you who've yet to purchase PlayStation Plus, or have stopped buying it due to price hikes, now is your time to enjoy the membership for free.

Before you get overly excited, this free subscription is a limited-time deal, and it doesn’t last long once you have it.

This weekend, PlayStation users can enjoy “free online multiplayer”, a perk typically locked behind PS Plus membership.

Granted, you’re not getting the full perks like paying members, but it’s a way to enjoy the benefits without spending a dime.

The deal is for PS4 and PS5 players, and will work with any game you own that has a multiplayer option.

Please note the “any game you own” - if you don’t own it, this free PS Plus deal will not work.

Although the news has triggered debates regarding multiplayer locked behind paywalls, players are still happy for the unexpected freebie.

“Online should never be locked behind a paywall but thanks for the weekend,” posted Either-Scheme-9731.

Someone else commented, “Cool, now I can see how many likes I received on the notes I left around Yharnam in Bloodborne years ago.”

We’re not crying over the lack of a Bloodborne remaster, you are.

Before you get upset about this limited deal – which runs from 21 September until 22 Sept – spare a thought for those paying for the subscription.

The PS Plus October lineup is off to a pretty grim start, so you might be the ones winning by not having membership.

For the PS Plus users among you still feeling bitter about that Oct lineup, you have something non-members don’t: a “blast” of a surprise free game.

If you’re not a member but want to enjoy some of its perks, this weekend is the time to do just that.
