It continues to be a week of unexpected surprises.
Yesterday, Rockstar Games dropped the long-awaited second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI out of nowhere.
Today, it’s Sony which is pulling the left-field moves, announcing a brand new first-party studio which has teased its first game.

It’s been unveiled that teamLFG is the newest member of the PlayStation first-party family.
Originally a subset of Bungie, teamLFG is now a fully-fledged studio, bringing together developers who have worked on major titles and franchises like Destiny, Halo, Fortnite, Roblox, and League of Legends.
“Hello, world. It’s a delight to meet you, and we’re very grateful to be joining PlayStation Studios,” wrote the team in a PlayStation blog post.
“We are passionate about exceptional action-based gameplay, moment-to-moment game feel, and richly social virtual worlds.”

Ghost of Yōtei is one of PlayStation’s major launches this year.
The LFG in teamLFG stands for ‘Looking For Group’, according to the team who are “driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging”.
“We want our players to feel excited when they log on to discover their teammates already hanging out online. We want our players to recognise familiar names and to make myths and memes out of each other,” they wrote.

“We want our players to love remembering that one time where they pulled off That Play that changed the whole story of the match. As we say on the team – dat’s da good stuff.”
In the post, teamLFG went on to tease their first game which will be a live-service title seemingly supported by early access playtests.
It’s described as a “team-based action game that draws inspirations from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games”.
Gosh, what a combination - and no, I have no idea what a frog-type game is.

“Players will inhabit a lighthearted, comedic world set in a brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe. We can’t wait to reveal more,” the post concluded.
Interesting, very interesting.
So we’ve got a multiplayer sci-fi title on the way! Let’s hope that a full reveal comes soon.
