PlayStation announces permanent price drop for PS5 hardware

Does this suddenly make it worth the price?

Sony has just announced that a very specific piece of PlayStation 5 hardware is getting a permanent price decrease in the United Kingdom and Europe (apologies in advance to any other countries who still gotta pay full price).

Thank you in advance to Techradar's Rhys Wood for spotting this one!

In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Sony revealed some fresh “Midnight Black” versions of a lot of their preexisting hardware - such as the PlayStation Portal, the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, the Pulse Elite wireless headset and the DualSense Edge wireless controller.

However, one little thing that they didn’t directly note is that, as confirmed by the blog post, the DualSense Edge controllers are getting a permanent reduction in price.

The little line that gives this away is right at the end: “DualSense Edge controller pricing in EURO and GBP also applies to the original white version.”

That means that every current variant of the DualSense Edge will now retail at £199.99 (or €219.99 in Europe).

That means that the controller is now a whopping, massive £10 cheaper in the United Kingdom.

Look, I’m gonna be real with you - this isn’t exactly the kind of saving that a lot of us were hoping for.

It may as well be 10p cheaper, because if anyone couldn’t afford a DualSense Edge before then they certainly can’t afford one now just because they’ve knocked a tenner off the price.

It is a step in the right direction though. While the DualSense Edge is a magnificent controller, it is still a pretty wild investment given what it offers.

Hopefully we might see these bumped down to somewhere around £150 in the future, which is still expensive obviously but a little more worth the investment, because otherwise I can’t see how this is going to help Sony move any extra units.
