PlayStation Plus ‘Free’ Upgrade Slammed By Furious Gamers

Feels illegal...

PlayStation Plus subscribers are furious as Sony offers free upgrades that aren’t actually free…

While the quality of the subscription is pretty good the cost of PlayStation Plus feels excessive at times.

With three tiers the one PlayStation users are most likely to go for is PlayStation Plus Extra, which offers both online play as well as all the games you could possibly want.

PlayStation Plus Premium is a tempting offer though especially for the Classic Catalog, but one subscriber’s temptation has severely backfired and lost them money.

The PlayStation user who goes by dread_fairy on Reddit made a post saying they were holding out on renewing their PlayStation Plus unless some sort of discount was offered, and when none came through they renewed PlayStation Plus Essential as normal.

Things took a turn though, with the user saying “I get a notification for a free upgrade to Premium and in my excitement I accepted immediately. WELL it's not an upgrade for the remainder of my Essential year, which would have gone through to the beginning of next August... No, it cut my year down to renew January 30th!”

They went on to explain “So I honestly think I just paid full price, maybe more, for 5 months of Premium before getting billed the full price of $160 on January 30th for renewal. I paid $80 for 5 months of Premium... I already turned the auto-renew off so I won't get charged that.”

Other PlayStation owners agreed it’s a scummy business practice, with one comment reading “This is such a scammy thing Sony is doing.’

“There was already a post about this yesterday or the day before,” read another, “it’s very sneaky of them to frame it as a free upgrade. There is a line explaining exactly what will happen, but it’s not immediately evident when you look at the offer.”

If you’re also thinking on renewing your PlayStation Plus be aware of offers like this, as it could be a worse deal than it looks.
