When looking for a new adventure game, the story should be of the utmost importance. It has to be brilliantly written and full of intriguing characters. That’s exactly what you’re getting here.

The Forgotten City is a visually gorgeous and brilliantly written game that whisks you away from your everyday life and drops you into a mystery filled with lots of “exploration and deduction.” And should you need any more convincing, how about we throw in some time-looping gameplay to really scratch that grey matter? Grab it on PlayStation Plus now!

Based on a Skyrim mod, The Forgotten City is a decision-based title where everything you do has consequences. The city is under threat and only you can figure out what’s going on, and how to stop it. “Combat is an option, but violence will only get you so far. Only by questioning an intertwined community of colourful characters, cleverly exploiting the time loop, and making difficult moral choices can you hope to solve this epic mystery.”

On release, The Forgotten City scooped up many ‘Game of the Year’ nods and plenty of acclaim for its writing, as well as the multi-branching story that resulted in several different endings. One of the best features is the weight that your choices have. Many games claim to alter paths depending on what you decide, but here there’s often life or death depending on your choice. On top of that, some of the characters are so delightfully realised that you can begin to truly care what happens.

When a game allows you to “solve problems with reason, charm, bribery, intimidation, violence, or by cleverly exploiting the time-loop” you know you’re in for a ride. Plus, if you love a bit of gossip and lore, then you’ll find yourself taken care of. And this all happens in a gorgeous world based on mythology.
