Stunning Looking 'Skyrim' Mod 'The Forgotten City' Getting Standalone Release

A PC mod once developed as a side-shoot of Skyrim is releasing in its own right later this year.

"The Forgotten City is a mature narrative-driven game, and a re-imagining of the critically acclaimed mod that won a national Writers' Guild award and racked up over 2.5 million downloads," explains the Steam page, but doesn't specify that it came to life as a mod for Skyrim.

It's being developed by Modern Storyteller and published by Dear Villagers. Here it is in action:

There's no formal release date secured for the game, but the Steam store lists "Winter 2020", so expect it towards the end of this year.

This isn't the first time a mod has gone it alone, of course. Jurassic Life, a PC mod that fuses - yup, you've guessed it - Jurassic Park and Half-Life 2 has gone solo and you no longer "need HL2 at all for the game to work".

In other mod news, did you see the mod that replaces Resident Evil 3's Carlos with the final version of Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid V? You know, the one with the horns. Big Boss retains Carlos' full facial animations, too, and while we don't have the silky vocals of Kiefer Sunderland, it's nonetheless pretty cool to see him in full action, albeit with Carlos' voice.

Just in case you missed it, there's also a PC mod for those of you left wondering what happened to Geralt in The Witcher 3. Introducing Dad Bod Geralt, a mod that packs a few extra pounds on Geralt's svelte frame. It works by replacing Geralt's "body mesh, body diffuse and normal textures, and his underwear mesh to give Geralt a notable gut and extra fat in his chest" to "increase [our] immersion with a nice gut to show off the good life!"
