PlayStation gamers are being treated to an exclusive bit of Assassin’s Creed content today, at no extra cost, featuring none other than Ezio Auditore da Firenze himself.

As revealed at the start of the year, the PlayStation 5 Game of the Year winner Astro Bot has been getting some free bonus updates since February.

Team Asobi has been drip-feeding these bonus levels to us on a weekly basis since February, and now the final level of the bunch is finally here, 'Armored Hardcore'.

Each of these new levels has brought a new bot to save along with them, including the likes of Heihachi Mishima from Tekken, Jade from Beyond Good & Evil, and Sir Galahad from The Order: 1886.

The thing is, with a name like 'Armored Hardcore', most of us assumed that the update would be adding a cameo from FromSoftware’s Armored Core series.

Instead, however, we actually got a Ubisoft cameo; the main man Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin’s Creed II.

Speaking of Assassin's Creed, there's just one week to go until Shadows drops.

As excited as people are to see Ezio return, most of the comments in that thread are just about the weird contrast between the level’s name and his cameo.

“Everyone who was in denial because of the levels name (the level name’s have never indicated who the bot is gonna be) are all shocked,” commented user @Handlegoeshere1.

“The level being named Armored Hardcore but having Ezio is pretty funny, maybe we get Armored Core stuff later,” replied user @Sp1duka.

That last comment raises an interesting point though; will we be getting more Astro Bot content in the future?

I mean nothing has been announced but I’d wager yes. Perhaps said content won’t be free next time around, but Team Asobi and Sony clearly know that new Astro Bot missions aren’t going to go out of style any time soon.
