PlayStation quietly drops free download for Cyberpunk 2077 fans

No PS Plus needed

Cyberpunk 2077 fans looking to scratch that itch should check out this free PlayStation download; before you ask, there's no PS Plus required.

The brand-new game set to release next month might not currently be on your radar, but it deserves to be.

It's very much like if Halo had a baby with Cyberpunk 2077, with just a dash of DOOM thrown in for good measure.

The game in question is called Metal Eden, and it's currently free to try on PlayStation 5 ahead of its 6 May release date.

"An adrenaline-rush sci-fi FPS," promises the game's description. "A HYPER UNIT ASKA is sent on a suicide mission to rescue citizens' COREs from MOEBIUS, an orbital city turned into a deadly trap. Dive into cybernetic warfare, face the ENGINEERS, and uncover the secrets of METAL EDEN."

A free demo for the game has been available on Steam for a few days now, where it already has some really positive reviews.

The demo contains the game's first two missions, which should give you a nice feel for the game's frenetic energy and slick movement.

It's also worth noting that unlike a lot of game trials on PlayStation these days, you absolutely don't need PlayStation Plus to access this one. Simply find the demo on the PS Store and download.

One Steam review for the demo enthuses: "Thoroughly mechanically and visually impressive and satisfying, with particularly intriguing and alluring artistic presentation and design." Somebody got a thesaurus for Christmas, clearly.

Another adds: "Crazy potential here, tho the release date is in less than 4 weeks so I'm afraid the guys cant turn this fast enough."

It'll be interesting to see if Metal Eden makes much of a splash when the full thing launches. For now, enjoy the demo and watch this space.
