PlayStation gamers urged to claim free store credit they're owed while they can

The beginning of the end

PlayStation users need to earn and spend as many PlayStation Stars points as possible soon due to the service being shut down.

As you can expect, this has kicked off a massive argument from fans condemning PlayStation for making a decent service worse and worse as time went on, only to shelve the entire thing anyway.

This has been made even worse by the fact that any points you haven’t spent by the time the service is completely retired in November 2026 will be gone forever, and you won’t be able to earn points after July 2025.

I’ve seen some interesting theories as to why PlayStation is getting rid of the service, such as it originally possibly being intended as an NFT factory with those digital collectables but because so many used it as a way of getting free PlayStation vouchers, it was losing the company too much money.

Whatever the case, as that is mere speculation, fans aren’t happy and have expressed their dissatisfaction on several online platforms, like Reddit.

“July 2025 they’re cutting off the program and not giving any more points but the program is remaining 'active' until November 2026? Why waste nearly an entire year and a half in a program that literally won’t be doing anything?” asked one disgruntled fan, for example.

Others had issue with the service disappearing but no alternative being named yet, saying, “Shutting it down with no actual new replacement in sight, fantastic.”

“I'm sure they made the whole Stars thing a far bigger problem than they had to. All they have to do is reward us for spending money and for playing games,” added one more.

It’s a shame because it was a really useful service when it came to those vouchers, as earning points through purchases or gameplay wasn’t fast, but it was passive so you’d eventually find you had quite a few points saved up.
