PlayStation 6's first proper teaser promises we're getting a beast

The start of something new

It feels too early to be talking about the PlayStation 6 but with it being the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, perhaps it's worth looking to the future?

Sony’s next console is inevitable, but as far as details are concerned, we’re in the dark apart from two certainties: it’ll be more powerful than the PS5 and more expensive too.

Worrying news considering the PlayStation 5 Pro costs an arm and a leg for a minimal boost in power and performance.

In an interview with Nikkei (via TweakTown), Hideaki Nishino, CEO of the Platform Business Group at Sony Interactive Entertainment, was asked how the PlayStation 6 will hold up against the PS5 Pro.

Nishino said “visual accuracy is important" and the company plans to update “other elements” in the system’s design, which matches reports that the PS6 could include an innovative new rewind feature for its games.

Nishino continued that technology is always improving and evolving, and believes there’s “more that we [Sony] can do" in the console market.

Again, this was inevitable, as the next generation of consoles will obviously have better graphics, load times, framerates etc otherwise there’d be no point in upgrading from your current console.

It is interesting that Sony is looking at other ways to innovate as well though, as Xbox is seemingly dominating in terms of game line-up and third-party offerings, whereas PlayStation has always done well with hardware like the PS5 DualSense controllers.

Nintendo, on the other hand, is seemingly still content to stay out of the console war, as while the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be a big upgrade over its predecessor, it’s not believed to be as powerful as an Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 6 is rumoured to launch sometime in the next few years. We're likely at least three years away.
