With the news that the PlayStation 6 is “top of mind” for Sony, it seems as though the PlayStation 5 truly is coming to the end of its lifespan.
So it is no surprise that some fans are calling the PlayStation 5 a mere “test run”.
First released back in November of 2020, the PlayStation 5 had a less-than-smooth debut thanks to stock shortages, scalpers, and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, many users only got their hands on the latest Sony console months or even years after it was first launched so it is no surprise that the PS5 feels a lot younger than its actual five-year lifespan.
That is perhaps why it was truly a shock when it was rumoured that the PlayStation 6 was already in development as many users are only just experiencing the PlayStation 5.
Not only that but according to a recent comment by Sony’s CEO, the PlayStation 6 is now “top of mind” which could mean that we will see the next-generation console launch a lot sooner than we had first thought.
In an interview with Dexerto, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and president Hideaki Nishino had the following to say about the PS6:

“We now have a large ecosystem of highly engaged players across both the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 4 generations. So naturally, therefore, there’s a huge interest in our next generation console strategy,” he said.
“While we cannot share further details at this stage, the future of the platform is top of mind. We are committed to exploring a new and enhanced way for players to engage with our content and services.”
Following this news, one fan took to Twitter to say that the PlayStation 5 “was a test run” alongside a broken heart emoji.
To which another user replied, “Test run and I never got my hands on one.”

Although we know that the PS6 is now an area of importance for Sony, it could still be a few years until it is launched and so now is the perfect time to experience all that the PS5 has to offer in the meantime.
