PlayStation 6 Price Has Gamers More Worried Than Ever

I’m a bit worried too

The potential price of the PlayStation 6 has gamers more worried than ever, and to be honest, I don't blame them.

Now, perhaps more than any other console generation, gaming is getting more expensive, or at least, this is probably the only generation where consoles have gradually become more expensive, whether it’s PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo.

In recent months, we’ve seen manufacturers bumping up the price of consoles that have already been out for years. Typically, consoles of previous generations will gradually drop as the new-gen era draws near.

Any number of excuses have been used, including cost inflation of manufacturing parts or, more recently, President Donald Trump’s tax increase on goods coming into the United States. The latter is the most illogical excuse of them all, in my opinion.

Granted, those tax increases should logically (while not ideal) increase the prices of consoles coming into the United States, but not elsewhere. Consoles are typically manufactured in Asia, so when those consoles are shipped into the USA, those taxes are enforced.

However, why is the rest of the world footing the bill for Donald Trump’s tax increase on imported goods coming into the United States?

It’s not like consoles are coming into the USA and then being shipped elsewhere. To me, it’s a poor and convenient excuse for mega corporations to squeeze the consumer evermore.

When the PlayStation 4 Pro launched, it had an RRP of £349.99 in 2016, which was the same price as when the base PS4 launched in 2013.

When the PlayStation 5 Pro launched in 2024, it had an RRP of £699.99, without a disc drive and vertical stand (those cost over £100 extra). This is roughly £250 more than when the standard PS5 launched in 2020 at £449.99 (that standard price has since gone up by £30 at the time of writing).

So, it’s totally understandable why so many gamers are already worried about how much the PlayStation 6 might cost (present company included).

“I know it's been speculated a bit, but what do we all think the PS6 price will eventually be? I want to start saving money here and there until it's released, but I'd like to get an estimate beforehand,” asked Redditor komodas.

“I’d be shocked if there aren’t a few versions at launch, possibly an elite version coming in at 800/900 and a base version 500/600,” speculated Defiant_Flamingo_430.

“600 without a disk drive,” said Mattdezenaamisgekoze.

“Just save money. Doesn’t matter how much it will cost, just save,” recommended Future_Bat384.

“1,000 Trump coins,” joked OneFunnyFart (what a username).

Once the official price of the PlayStation 6 drops directly from Sony, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
