The PlayStation 5 has been hit with another sneaky update, teasing something big for the future. Updates like this aren’t uncommon and most of the time they’re for little things, like bug fixes, or streamlining a particular feature.
This time around the update from PlayStation is aimed at the social side of your PlayStation 5, specifically the messaging system.
The new update’s notes reads: “We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.”

Personally I can’t picture what that could look like, but then again I don’t use the PlayStation 5’s message feature.
There’s still no word on further support for Discord on the console, for example Xbox allows you to stream your games to your Discord chat through the console itself, but PlayStation doesn’t have that feature yet.
Additionally, there’s probably a good chance the new update is a kind of precursor to the upcoming State Of Play broadcast tonight.
State Of Play as we all know is PlayStation’s method of showcasing the latest games coming to the system.

While nothing too crazy is expected from tonight’s showcase, it is believed Resident Evil 9 will receive its first trailer, maybe even some gameplay too.
We could also see a closer look at Ghost Of Yotei and probably a bit more of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater Delta as well.
There’s also a good chance some things could be shadow-dropped, but don’t hold your breath.
Basically the new update could be related to those upcoming announcements, priming the store pages for new additions and preorders.

Maybe not, it could just be wishful thinking but tonight’s showcase has potential, so it’s nice to think there’s more to this mysterious PlayStation 5 update than meets the eye.
The update is available to download right now, either manually or automatically depending on how you’ve rigged your console.
