PlayStation gamers are only just now finding out about a setting which can instantly increase download speeds on PS5.
With video games nowadays having much higher textures and more detailed audio, file size requirements have ballooned up.
A decade ago it felt like 30GB AAA games were massive, and now it’s pretty common to get them at over 100GB. And sometimes even 150GB.
With file sizes now being absolutely massive, combined with more games being sold digitally, having a high download speed is essential in 2025.

So it’s important to be able to squeeze as much as you can out of your network so you can get gaming sooner.
PS5 gamers are only just now realising there’s a hidden setting which can dramatically increase speeds.
The setting in question is located in the network folder. From the PS5 menu, head to Settings, then go down to Network, then Set Up Connection. Press Options, and change the setting from Automatic to 5GHZ and hit confirm.
According to Reddit user BroncoBoy91, this may be the reason for slow downloads on the PlayStation 5.
Plenty of users took the time to thank them, with one comment writing: “This worked instantly for me, thank you!”
“Lifesaver man, instantly dropped from 80 minutes to 20 minutes,” wrote another user.
“Thank you! This solved my long standing issues with slow PS5 downloads - now it's blazing fast!” a third user wrote.
Of course, you need to bear in mind that this will depend on the speeds that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) usually provides you. If you don’t pay for a fast network connection, don’t expect a lot to change here.
But if you’re experiencing slow internet speeds compared to what you should be getting when downloading on your PS5, it might be worth trying this to see if things improve.
