PlayStation 5 Pro specs leak online, and it sounds like a monster

First the slim, now the pro

We've recently seen a new PlayStation 5 console revealed to bring a more slimline unit to the Sony console group. Now, we're starting to hear rumours about a possible PS5 upgrade to a Pro model, and it sounds like a monster.

Of course, these specs are rumours, but as with many things PlayStation nowadays, the rumours often turn out to be a great starting point. By all means, take this with a pinch of salt, but when we look at the possible specs for this machine, it looks like it will be a beast.

The PlayStation 5 slim model was recently announced

Rumour has it that a pro version of Sony's console is on the horizon and the details circulating right now offer a glimpse into what this upgrade could look like. As being reported on Reddit it seems the new console would be kitted out with an eight-core Zen 2 CPU running in the 4GHz range, 60 compute units RDNA 3 custom GPU running at 2500-2800MHz, and 16GB GDDR6 memory.

Reactions to the specs are mixed with one Redditor saying the "CPU upgrade might not even be worth talking about" while others are pondering how the Ray Tracing improvements will fair given the jump in GPU power and the fact that many games will soon start targeting Ray Pathing, much like Cyberpunk 2077 on PC.

One user, u/BurnItFromOrbit, makes a great point about the upgrade "It’s not going to be the 240% increase in performance from the PS4 to the PS4 Pro. It’s likely to be in the 10% to 40% range depending on the use case." For many players this upgrade will allow them to play games at 4K much more consistently, while still enabling Ray Tracing. It's likely the Pro console would mean more games offering 60fps with all the bells and whistles turned on, rather than having to choose between performance and quality modes.

While some are critical of the actual boost games would see, the fact that the console could truly take advantage of this new-gen range of graphical updates, is pretty stellar for most users.
