PlayStation 5 to welcome popular free open-world RPG

I'm sure this one will make some waves on PlayStation once it drops on 1 January

One of 2024’s most hyped free-to-play games is finally making its way to PlayStation very, very soon, following an announcement at The Game Awards last night.

As revealed during the event alongside a brand new trailer for the title, Kuro Games’ hit free-to-play open-world RPG Wuthering Waves will be landing on PlayStation 5 in just over two weeks on 1 January 2025. Happy new year, gacha-lovers.

Also, if you’re a fan of the game, apparently that trailer has some big lore reveals in it. All the Wuthering Waves fans on Twitter are raving about a “Narwhal” popping up and a white-haired anime lady they’re referring to as, uh, “mommy”?

The game has been making waves (pun intended) online ever since it dropped back in May on PC and mobile, with a lot of critics praising it for its satisfying combat and its apparently quite generous reward system (which is certainly not the standard for free-to-play gacha games).

ICYMI: CD Projekt RED has released The Witcher 4's first trailer.

Perhaps its positive reception is even more impressive considering how much of a mess this game was when it first released.

One of the first patches for the game somehow managed to disable all of the in-game music, and another one rendered the game impossible to launch through the Epic Games store due to a “Fatal Error” bug.

Personally, I think the funniest one was the system clock exploit, which allowed users to access all of Wuthering Waves’ unreleased content at launch by simply setting their system clocks forward by a few months.

By the sounds of things, the game is in a great spot these days though, so hopefully the 2.0 version of the game that will launch on PlayStation 5 is a little less buggy than previous versions of the title.

No word on an Xbox port of the game as of yet, but I’d be surprised if Wuthering Waves doesn’t eventually see release on the platform following the success of Genshin Impact’s release on Xbox Series S/X last month.
