PlayStation 5 error returning consoles to factory settings

A PlayStation 5 error is seemingly returning some consoles to their factory settings.

One PlayStation 5 gamer really experienced a heart-stopping moment when their console suffered from an error calling for it to be put back into factory settings.

The error occurred when the victim was playing Diablo 4 and so they went to r/playstation with evidence. On the black screen, an error read, “Something went wrong. Your console needs to be reset to factory defaults to continue.” What is even more interesting is that the message didn’t come with an error code which led some people to believe it was either a problem with the console’s hard drive or Lilith herself had cursed the PS5.

Since then, the user has updated worried viewers, revealing, “It’s fine now. We had to download some stuff again but it’s working.” With some Reddit users worrying if it meant the poster’s Diablo 4 save files were deleted, they were reassured that Cloud save would save the day. Additionally, Diablo 4 is a server-based game meaning that progress is not saved on storage.

“Saves for most games are only on the Cloud if you have PlayStation Plus and auto upload enabled. Otherwise people would be screwed by something like this. Scary,” read another comment. Whilst another said, “I’ve never had this happen. But it’s nice all saves are on the Cloud. More times than not probably fairly harmless to have to reset.”

With online games relying on server-side saves, crashing during them is not likely to affect your game. However, crashing during an RPG like Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be less than ideal. Luckily, the crashing issues seem to be fairly uncommon and are easily fixed with a simple reset. Either way, it’s a good reminder that we should upload any save files to the Cloud or back them up on hard drives regularly.
