PlayStation 5 consoles received a hefty system update recently, but it’s left many disappointed.

Fans have been patiently waiting for a variety of features to be added to their PlayStation consoles, like the option to customise home screens, better UI navigation and more.

Unfortunately, it looks like they’ll be waiting a bit longer, as the latest update has left a lot to be desired.

System update 23.01-07.61.00.00 dropped the other day, weighing in at just over 1GB in size, and reportedly added a variety of patches to the latest Sony console.

What are these mysterious patches you ask? We have no idea… as barely anything has changed since the update dropped, leading many to wonder what its intended purpose was.

This happens more often than you’d think, and not just for PlayStation consoles, Nintendo and Xbox are guilty of random, inconsequential system updates too, although Xbox has introduced several quality-of-life improvements in its latest update.

There’s a possibility the PlayStation update could be a precursor to a much larger one that’s on the horizon, but there’s no way of knowing for sure. You’d hope they’re adding something of value soon, especially since there’s a high demand from fans for much-needed features and fixes.

That being said, I suppose we can take comfort in knowing that many of these updates fail to impact the console in the way we’d like, they go a long way in giving them active and running smoothly, so we can play our silly little games without worry.

Speaking of silly games, PlayStation Plus has included some bangers this month, perfect if you’re looking for a new title to sink a few hours into.

PlayStation players who haven’t downloaded the update already will be prompted to the next time they boot up their PS5 console.
