PlayStation 5 quietly adds new free download via system update

Sony has dropped a little update for PlayStation 5, bringing with it some improvements to hardware and compatibility, but also giving us a lovely free download.

There’s no song and dance from PlayStation, but it turns out that as part of this update, they’ve given all players access to a new summer animated theme.

This is the second new theme from Sony, and it’s a rather nice one if you fancy celebrating the summer months.

The last batch of themes came out with no update, but it seems that you will need to update your system OS in order to snag this one.

To do that, navigate to the settings menu by clicking on the cog symbol in the top corner and select System Feature Updates, then wait for it to finish.

On restarting, you’ll likely spot the new theme at the top of the Welcome Hub under the ‘From PlayStation’ section.

It’s great to see PlayStation pushing out more dynamic and animated themes, as it gives players a chance to personalise their consoles.

It would be nice to receive more of these for the games we love, but this is still a great addition.

The big update pushed out tweaks to the power saving mode for PS5 games, which reduces environmental impact.

There’s also a great new feature that allows your Dual Sense controllers to pair with several systems at once.

Fans all agree this is a brilliant change as it allows some to use the Dual Sense on PC, without always having to repair the controller, over and over.

Make sure you keep your console’s system software up to date in order to get the best out of the hardware and utilise any new features.

These can be set to update automatically if your console is set to rest mode.
