Forget The Last of Us, PlayStation Needs No-Brainer Remaster Slept on For Years

Sony has resisted

Sony PlayStation has been sleeping on one huge remaster for years, and surely it’s a no-brainer to bring it back.

There are a plethora of fantastic first-party franchises that Sony PlayStation has treated us to over the years, from God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Horizon and much more.

That being said, all of the above have, in some way, shape or form, been released in recent generations, whether it’s a new game, remake or remaster. However, there are a ton of first-party PlayStation franchises that Sony has neglected over the years, too.

The first series that comes to mind is Killzone, a sci-fi military shooter that made its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. It was dubbed as the “Halo killer”, but it got nowhere near being that. It was barely a graze on Master Chief’s helmet.

The last game in the series was Killzone: Shadow Fall, a PlayStation 4 launch title in November 2013 that was a great game to showcase the power of Sony’s shiny new toy. Sadly, other than DLC, we’ve not heard a peep from the series ever since.

Then there’s Sony’s other first-party sci-fi military shooter franchise, Resistance. Rather than being set in the distant future on other planets, this series was set on Earth during an alternative early 1950s timeline, post World War II, with a brutal alien invasion at the heart of its story.

The first game, Resistance: Fall of Man, was released on the PlayStation 3 in 2006, developed by Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank studio, Insomniac Games. This series would evolve into a trilogy on PlayStation 3, with its last entry releasing in 2011.

Unlike the two spin-offs on PSP and PS Vita, the Resistance trilogy on PlayStation 3 was reviewed quite favourably across the board, earning Metacritic scores around the mid to high 80s. Despite this, for the last two console generations, Sony seems reluctant to bring it back, even though PlayStation has not had major success with a first-party first-person shooter in years.

An Official Resistance: Fall of Man Remaster Would be Awesome!

Fans of the Resistance series would love for it to come back, and if Sony were ever to consider a remaster, at the bare minimum, RegularFalcon1747 shared a YouTube video from Bryce Czirr, showcasing the 2006 game emulated running at 60 frames per second and a 4K resolution.

“This game was my entry into the PS3, and I will forever love it,” said JonD91 in the Reddit thread.

“Oh man, I love Resistance. Awesome trilogy along with Killzone. Wish they’d bring it back,” exclaimed sstphnn.

“Why haven't these been released on PS4/PS5, at least?” asked No_Establishment7368. “These were pushing the PS3 when it was just a $1k Blu-ray player.

"Now they just want to re-release Horizon and The Last of Us over and over.”

We can only assume that the Resistance series never sold as well as Sony would have liked, but being nearly 15 years since its last mainline entry, I think it’s about time that the powers that be showed some love.
