Any homeowner or subscriber to any service will be used to continuous price hikes, however, a recent Nintendo Switch Online increase has still come as a surprise to many.

Much like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service not only allows customers to play games online but also offers additional perks such as a library of video games to play when they please, discounts, and more.

The basic Nintendo Switch Online tier offers retro games from the NES, SNES and Game Boy, whereas the Expansion Pass tier includes N64, GBA and SEGA Mega Drive titles as well as expansions for the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

What’s more, in 2024, Nintendo introduced a brand-new perk with Nintendo Music available with both subscription tiers which is basically Spotify but exclusively Nintendo goodness.

Both Nintendo Switch Online tiers are reasonably priced with the basic tier costing just £17.99 a year and the Expansion Pass tier at £34.99, with additional charges to make a family account.

However, as reported by CentroPokemon, the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service is about to get more expensive in select territories.

More specifically, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru have all been confirmed to see a 25% price increase. Reportedly, at the time of writing, Nintendo has not given an official explanation for the price hike.

It’s also unknown at this time if Nintendo Switch Online is going to get more expensive for other regions across the world. It might be safe to assume that we could all see an increase in the online service with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon.

Details on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed during a Direct event on 2 April 2025, and maybe we’ll also learn if other regions will see a price hike for NSO. We’ll keep you posted.
