The Last Of Us officially returns in surprise new release

Naughty Dog has released a new patch for The Last of Us Part II Remastered making big improvements to one of this generation's best games.

In our review of The Last of Us Part II Remastered, we said: “We all thought Part II was Naughty Dog’s magnum opus but Part II Remastered shows that there’s plenty more gas in the tank. If this is insight into what’s to come from the studio, I cannot wait to see what Naughty Dog is cooking up next.”

Following months of speculation, Sony officially released the PlayStation 5 Pro in September 2024 boasting improved visuals and performance for a large chunk of first-party and third-party games for the likes of God of War Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy and more.

We all know that The Last of Us Part II Remastered will also benefit from PS5 Pro enhancements but developer Naughty Dog had not given a specific release date as to when that update will arrive. However, to the surprise of fans, that update has now arrived.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered was already a gorgeous game on the standard PlayStation 5 console but now it’s returned in a big way, looking and playing better than ever.

The patch notes on NaughtyDog.com confirm that The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PS5 Pro renders at a super-crisp 1440p, taking advantage of its PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling to a resolution output of 4K. Oh, and it will also maintain a targeted 60 frames per second.

Patch 1.2 also adds the option of playing The Last of Us Part II Remastered in either performance or fidelity modes on PS5 Pro, making it feel like a brand-new game. The patch also fixes several reported bugs.

The new patch will begin downloading the next time you fire up the game unless it’s been implemented during sleep mode and if that’s the case, you’re good to go.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is out now on PC and PlayStation 5.
