Last year, it was confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn would no longer be receiving the TV adaptation treatment from Netflix.

But you no longer have to mourn the idea of what could’ve been.

Well, to an extent. Horizon Zero Dawn is, once again, in the process of being adapted but this time it’ll be as a film from Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions.

As such, you should expect a pared down story compared to what we might have received if Netflix had gone ahead with their lengthier version.

It’s the joint efforts of Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions that brought us the Uncharted and Gran Turismo films, neither of which were bad.

That being said, nor did they capture the essence of the franchise quite like other recent high profile game adaptations. I’m thinking of the likes of The Last of Us, Fallout, and Twisted Metal.

It’s with that in mind that I think we should all temper our expectations.

It’s currently unknown when filming will commence with news about the film’s cast and creatives practically non-existent for the time being.

That hasn’t stopped fans from selecting their top picks for Aloy though.

ICYMI: The Last of Us has dropped a brand new trailer for its upcoming second season.

The topic of Aloy’s casting was brought up on Reddit by user iamdnisovich who suggested Samantha Cormier, a relative newcomer perhaps best known for her role in 2024’s Spin The Bottle, and Jeni Ross, who you may recall as young Donna in Suits.

“Sophia Lillis for Aloy,” declared dumdumdudum, and it’s a great shout. Lillis portrayed Doric in 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

“The main rumour for Aloy when it was going to be a series was Sadie Sink, so she is probably at the top of the list for the movie too,” said Alex Masterson13.

While I adore Sadie as an actress, I do wonder if she’s a tad too young-skewing for Aloy.

User breosaighead may have just thought up the best idea so far, Erin Kelleyman who you may recall from roles in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

These are all stellar options, and while I’m doubtful this film will be one for the record books, I do have faith that creatives will bring us an Aloy to be proud of.
