Horizon Zero Dawn fans have lost it in a wave of mass excitement following a huge announcement from PlayStation.

Developed by Guerrilla Games and originally released in 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Horizon Zero Dawn introduced a new PlayStation mascot with its protagonist, Aloy. Horizon Zero Dawn quickly became one of the best console exclusives of its generation.

Set in the distant 31st century, Horizon Zero Dawn takes place in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by mechanical beasts created by Hephaestus aka “The Daemon”, a powerful AI gone rogue that puts what is left of humanity on Earth under the threat of extinction. Humanities' only hope is none other than the tribal outcast, Aloy.

Horizon Zero Dawn later got the Frozen Wilds expansion, followed by the 2022 sequel Horizon Forbidden West and another expansion with Burning Shores. What’s more, improving on a PS4 game that still looks gorgeous today, in 2024, we were then treated to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on PC and PlayStation 5.

So it’s fair to say that there’s plenty of Horizon goodness to go around while we wait for the announcement of the inevitable third game to complete the Aloy trilogy. However, if its video game series wasn't quite enough to keep you busy, a Horizon Zero Dawn movie is officially on the way.

Announced during CES 2025, Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions said, “Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are at the early stages of developing a film adaptation of the award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn.”

“Just imagine, Aloy's beloved origin story set in a vibrant, far-future world filled with giant machines, brought to you for the first time on the big screen."

Other details regarding the adaptation such as who will star in the production and when it will be released are understandably being kept tightly under wraps at this time but that hasn't stopped fans from being excited by this announcement.

“Hell yeah. I was so disappointed when the Netflix show was cancelled. Horizon Zero Dawn is my favourite game of all time with Forbidden West being number two. I will be going to see this movie on day one,” exclaimed Twitter user HumanB3lng.

“One of the best stories to ever grace video games,” said 0xWizardOf0z.

“Now this is something that I would very much like to see, the story of the game is so good, it deserves to have its own movie adaptation,” replied NightCreeper44.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West are out now on PC and PlayStation.
