Halo fans torn as Combat Evolved remake seemingly bound for PS5

Big news for PlayStation fans

With the future of the Halo franchise looking bright thanks to a recent announcement, it seems it may not be all good news.

Earlier this week saw 343 Industries (the studio who took over the Halo franchise from Bungie back in 2012) make an exciting announcement.

Check out the launch trailer for the most recent Halo entry, Halo Infinite, below!

Not only will the studio be rebranding as Halo Studios, but it also revealed that the future of the Halo franchise would now be made using Unreal Engine.

With the franchise having somewhat of a mixed reception in recent years, especially with the arrival of Halo Infinite, this could be the change the long-running FPS series needs.

Alongside the announcement, Halo Studios also released a teaser trailer of Master Chief and he is looking as good as ever in his Halo: Combat Evolved armour.

However, with Halo formerly being an Xbox title, it could now be making its way to the PS5.

Earlier in the year, The Verge’s Tom Warren revealed that Halo Studios could be working on a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved for “rival consoles”.

If this is true, Halo’s shift to Unreal Engine 5 would make this the perfect opportunity for the next entry to head to the PlayStation 5.

This will mark the first time that a Halo entry will arrive on a Sony console but with Microsoft working on sharing more games outside of exclusivity, this would be an expected decision.

For now, we can look forward to another announcement from the-now Halo Studios. Until then, it is hard at work recruiting new talent as it will be “changing the recipe” on how entries are made.

Will we get the Halo: Combat Evolved remake or a brand-new title completely?
