Elden Ring fans are going to love this PlayStation Plus game, which is basically Elden Ring and Dark Souls in pixel format.

I often wonder if FromSoftware knew what they were doing when they launched Dark Souls all the way back in 2011. Sure Demon Souls had released in 2009 but it was only when the first Dark Souls game rolled around that the “soulslike” genre really started to take off. While this led to games like Bloodborne and Elden Ring, it also inspired other developers to make their own version of a soulslike, like Eldest Souls.

In short, Eldest Souls is a soulslike in pixel form. It’s got everything a good soulslike needs, like creating your own build, an open world to explore, and of course some absolutely brutal boss battles.

Your own skill will determine how much you enjoy the game, as you’ll need to learn and perfect the game mechanics to beat it as smoothly as possible, which will be difficult but also immensely rewarding.

The best of Eldest Souls is it’s currently available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners for free provided they have an active subscription to PlayStation Plus. Because it’s part of the Extra game catalogue you’ll need to be subscribed to PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Premium to access it, but there’s plenty of trials and deals to make that happen if you know where to look.

Once you’ve got your membership sorted you can play as much as you like of Eldest Souls free of charge until you’re satisfied or it’s removed from the catalogue.

It’s well worth a look, especially if you’re a big fan of soulslikes but don’t fancy another playthrough of Elden Ring for the umpteenth time, at least not until Shadow Of The Erdtree comes out.

Eldest Souls is available on PlayStation via PlayStation Plus, and can also be found on Xbox, PC and Nintendo platforms.
