Xbox and PlayStation players will soon have access to a free game this weekend, with crossplay, as part of a limited-time trial

The title in question is none other than Crash Team Rumble, a multiplayer party game that sees Crash Bandicoot characters, new and old, go head-to-head in arena battles. Players can pick from Crash himself, Neo Cortex, Tawna, Ripperoo and many more, including the series' first non-binary character, Catbat.

The premise is pretty simple, two teams compete to collect the most wumpa fruits, which are scattered around the arena and can be deposited at drop-off locations. You can spin, slide and jump on opponents to knock them down, as well as pick up several goofy powerups to get the edge over the other team.

It saw positive reviews, and while we thought the beta left a lot to be desired, the game has definitely improved over time and is worth checking out especially when it's free.

Crash Team Rumble is currently coming towards the end of its first season, with the aim of adding more content as time goes on, including more characters, modes, customisation options and more.

A free trial of the game will launch on Xbox and PlayStation this Friday, the 11th of August, and will be available until the 14th of August. The trial will give players a taste of what the game has to offer, allowing them to play with their friends regardless of platform.

Any progress made during the trial, whether it be levels, the battle pass, or acquired cosmetics, will transfer to the full game if you decide to buy it in the future, which is a nice incentive.

If you’re a fan of Crash Bandicoot, platformers and multiplayer fun, you’ll likely get a kick out of this one, so why not give it a go while you’ve got the free trial?

The Crash Team Rumble trial will run from the 11th of August to the 14th of August for Xbox and PlayStation fans.
