The Last of Us Part II is widely considered to be one of the best games ever made, especially in terms of its gripping storyline that made a huge impact when its was translated to TV last year.
Thanks to the second season of the gripping The Last of Us series, more people than ever before have been able to experience Ellie's search for love and revenge, entangling her emotions like the arms of the deadly fungus-spreading Infected.
But while The Last of Us Part II remains a masterpiece, one part of the fabled title has eluded the community, despite constant calls for Naughty Dog to drop an extra mode.
Co-op and multiplayer action have largely evaded the franchise to the extent that even the standalone online game was cancelled in 2023.

But that has all just changed, as a modding community has just showcased an upcoming two-player co-op mode that could rewrite the game entirely.
Rightly so, due to the incredible work on the franchise, The Last of Us has birthed a huge and devoted fan base, who have taken up the torch to produce their own versions of what a third instalment of the series could look like.
Others have opted to improve the already-released games, such as the modder 'Speclizer'.
In their latest upload to YouTube, the modder has revealed that their multiplayer mod is taking shape, even offering a first look at the co-op mode in action.
The mod shows both characters shooting their weapons separately, moving around the overgrown city seamlessly.
"It will be epic to be able to play with others in this game engine!" one comment read.
Fans noticed that Dina was replaced by a second Ellie, but the modder also revealed that this was just a placeholder and the power duo would be reunited in their Seattle scandals - a perfect two-player experience for the die-hard Dina stans.
There is a hitch to all this hype, though. Currently, the team creating this mod has no plans to ship it out to the public.
Taking to the description on their latest YouTube upload, Speclizer said, "This is purely experimental with no plans to release currently. Just seeing how far we can push it."

However, the overwhelming feedback from the community on social media could spur them on to give us what we've been asking for since 2020.
If this co-op mod doesn't launch, not all is lost for The Last of Us fandom, though. Just last week, Naughty Dog’s chief mastermind, Neil Druckmann, teased that Part III could be on the way soon.
As to what the trilogy title could be, this might not be the 'Season 3' Abbie-centric viewpoint coming to TV, although fans have been spun into a frenzy trying to guess what would be next for Ellie.
