A free download for Star Wars Battlefront 2 basically turns it into a whole new game, if you’re so inclined.
The Star Wars Battlefront series is seeing a bit of a resurgence lately, especially the second game from Dice which recently hit an all-time high player count.
But it’s not just the newer Star Wars Battlefront games that are getting all the love. Fans are turning to Pandemic Studios’ classic Battlefront games too for a bit of retro Clone Trooper action.

In fact, the classic Star Wars Battlefront 2 from 2005 has received a decent uptick in players since May this year, going from an average of 167 players in April to 312 in May.
Obviously a much smaller count compared to the 35,000 players playing Dice’s Battlefront 2, but not nothing when you consider the game is 20 years old at this point.
What’s more, the classic shooter now has a mod available which basically transforms the game into something completely new.
The Shattered Galaxy mod for Star Wars Battlefront 2 brings content from Legends (Star Wars’ classification for any expanded material made pre-Disney, that is no longer canon) to the game.

This includes 80+ new heroes to play as, and also several new eras, factions, units, vehicles, and maps. All of these cover events that occur during the Legends timeline of Star Wars.
Although Shattered Galaxy was released in 2019, mod creator Delta327 is still releasing updates for it as of 2025.
In March this year, they revealed that new maps were on the way, including “50+ maps for the Clone Wars Part 1 update”.
If you’re a Star Wars Battlefront fan who is more in tune with Legends than the new Disney canon, this sounds like this might be the mod for you.

You can download Shattered Galaxy from the Moddb page. Obviously, you'll need to own a copy of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005) to play.
