OG Assassin's Creed next-gen overhaul leaves fans stunned

Let's throw it back to where it all began

Next year, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise is set to take players to Feudal Japan for the first time ever.

Originally due out this month, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now targeting a February 2025 release date with devs needing extra time to refine and polish the game.

Yasuke and Naoe’s journey looks incredibly promising so fair to say, I think this will be worth the wait.

If you want to tread more familiar ground in the meantime though, you may want to check out this fantastic mod which overhauls the franchise’s very first entry, 2007’s Assassin's Creed.

I can’t in good faith say, ‘Can you believe it’s been 17 years since Altaïr’s debut adventure was released?’, because honestly, yes it does.

But it’s for this reason that it’s nice to revisit this entry and indulge ourselves in a bit of nostalgia.

Well, if you want to do just that but pair your nostalgia with the comforts of modern day technology, you may want to check out the game via this incredible graphics overhaul mod.

Take a look at the aforementioned Assassin’s Creed Shadows in action below.

This mod comes from YouTuber KTMX who created the project to add “extra detail, ambient occlusion, more depth and photorealistic realism lighting as if AC1 was remastered or had a remake for PS5, Xbox Series X and next-gen PC and consoles”.

The end result is incredibly impressive and you can take a look below.

KTMX also ended up enhancing Altaïr’s outfit, alongside the retexturing of the environment.

As much as I yearn for new original stories, as we’re used to seeing from Ubisoft, I’d be lying if I said there weren't a few classic gems I’d love to see remade for modern consoles like this.

Clearly I wouldn’t be the only one enthused to see a project of this nature, judging the response to this mod.

“This is great, I will have to revisit all of them once I have a PC strong enough,” wrote one viewer.

“You are f**king phenomenal,” added another.

If you want to download the mod yourself, you’ll need to be running Assassin’s Creed on PC.

Beyond that, simply either head on over to KTMX’s Patreon or website.
