Max Payne fans have much to celebrate at the moment.

Not only are remakes of the first two games entering full development, but there’s also a remaster you can play right now without spending a single dime.

There are several Max Payne mods you should check out, but ‘Max Payne Remixed’ is the one that’s got our undivided attention.

We should make it clear that this remaster may be free to play, however, it’s not the finished product.

Check out the official Max Payne trailer below.

As you’ll see when visiting the mod page, the team is searching for more modders to join them so they can complete the project.

Still, what’s on offer already is a brilliant way to return to the iconic streets of Max Payne.

In the words of Steam’s description for the OG title, “Max Payne is a man with nothing to lose in the violent, cold urban night.”

“A fugitive undercover cop framed for murder, hunted by cops and the mob, Max is a man with his back against the wall, fighting a battle he cannot hope to win. Prepare for pain.”

Sure, you could play the original version over on Valve’s platform, but is it worth it?

We’ll leave that for you to decide.

Meanwhile, we’ll enjoy this free mod while you pay £5.99...

When the final version of the mod will launch, we can’t say; right now, there’s no timeframe estimate, and so we just have to wait and see.

While we wait for console remakes, this is a way to entertain yourselves without hurting our eyes looking at those old school graphics.

Besides, with Rockstar Games focusing squarely on GTA VI and Remedy still working on Alan Wake 2 DLC, we’re likely going to be waiting for those official remasters for longer than we’d like.

Max is waiting for you – are you going to help him kick butt or not?
