Hogwarts Legacy: Under The Whomping Willow is free to download now

Just pretend it had already been planted in 1890

If I could cast a spell that revealed exactly what it is that Avalanche Software is working on, I would.

We’ve heard so many whispers over the last year concerning a director’s cut or extended edition of Hogwarts Legacy that it certainly feels like a case of there being no smoke without fire.

But how long might Avalanche make us wait? We’ve surpassed the game’s two year anniversary.

It’s believed that even Rocksteady was drafted in to help with the project following the disastrous launch of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

Well, we’re unfortunately going to have to remain patient for now.

That’s much easier for Hogwarts Legacy players on PC who recently welcomed the mod support update.

Perhaps mod support will eventually arrive on console.

There are some wonderful mods out there that extend the game, including ‘Under the Whomping Willow’ that adds a charming new side quest.

This one’s the work of CurseForge user theTayra and before you say, “The Whomping Willow hadn’t been planted yet in 1890,” suspend your disbelief.

‘Under the Whomping Willow’ is a side quest that should only take you around 15 minutes to complete.

“A strange incident leads you to the Whomping Willow and something hidden beneath it,” teases the synopsis. “Some secrets were never meant to stay buried.”

The mod introduces a new custom dungeon and two new voiced NPCs, Caius Fenrik and Mercy Brown.

I have to say, I’m intrigued but I also played through the game on PlayStation so my curiosity is sadly going to go unsatisfied.

“Love it,” one player commented. “Just wish it was longer.”

“This is a great looking mod,” added another.

The creator has since also revealed that they plan to update the quest soon, adding additional enemies, particularly during the quest’s finale.

If you want to unearth the Whomping Willow’s secret, you can head on over to the CurseForge mod page and download the quest for free.
