An RTX remake of the first Half Life game is currently in development with modders, teased by an in-game screenshot.

While the meme has slowly faded into obscurity over the past few years I’m sure the majority of gamers are still secretly hoping Valve is working on Half Life 3.

We sat down with the cast of the live-action Fallout TV series for a game of snog, marry or irradiate, check out the chaos below

But as much as we’d like it to be, Half Life 3 isn’t the topic of today’s discussion, that belongs to an incredible remake of the first Half Life game that’s in development right now, and is begging for an official release.

If you haven’t played it, Half Life follows the scientist Gordon Freeman who’s trying to escape the Black Mesa Research Facility, which has been overrun with aliens following an experiment gone wrong.

The first-person shooter was critically-acclaimed, which obviously spurred the Steam-publisher on to develop sequels and even connect some of its other games to the same universe, like Portal and Portal 2.

Now a modder by the name of MochaTheTransProto is remaking the game with an RTX Remake mod, and while gameplay hasn’t been shown as of yet the first official screenshot looks stellar.

It showcases the brand-new lighting, which is path-traced for greater immersion and improved graphical fidelity.

We can only imagine how good it looks when you’re actually playing, as the flickering lights and explosions from the wrecked facility probably look fantastic with RTX on.

That being said, as impressive as the project is, it also sort of rubs salt into the wound that we’ll likely never get an official remake from Valve for modern platforms, no matter how much we beg for one.

It’s unknown if and when the RTX Remake mod will be made public, but it’s worth keeping an eye on if you fancy replaying the first Half Life game with some spruced-up visuals.
