If you love FromSoftware’s Elden Ring and have a soft spot for retro gaming, then you’ll want to check out this free taster that brings all the nostalgia vibes.
Without a doubt, FromSoftware is one of the most talented development studios in the world today, having treated us to such bangers over the years like Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls, Amored Core, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Arguably, FromSoftware’s most popular game is 2022’s Elden Ring, a game that was so good that even gamers who had never played anything from the studio before found themselves immersed in the Lands Between.
Players were later treated to more Lands Between with the epic expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree and the multiplayer roguelike spin-off, Elden Ring Nightreign.
As brought to our attention by DSOGaming, talented indie developer, BoxingBruin, has recreated a project inspired by Elden Ring, as if it were released on the Nintendo 64, in a concept dubbed by the community as a demake. Best of all, you can play its demo right now for free.

The Elden Ring N64-inspired demake is made possible by developing the game on PC and using the ARES emulator software. The graphics are also made to be crisper using a 32-bit framebuffer, a distance-based SFX system, as well as scrolling textures on a skinned mesh.
As seen in the gameplay video on YouTube, the Elden Ring-inspired demake demo looks to have challenging combat, befitting of any FromSoftware title and a gruelling boss that will easily kick your backside if you’re not careful.
Despite being an Elden Ring and Nintendo 64 mash-up, it looks like it works rather well. It gives me vibes of Castlevania, which launched on the N64 in 1999.
In the description of the demo video on YouTube, it’s also revealed that the project is called Pandemonium, likely to avoid any potential lawyer letters, as well as the demo having a story and a cinematic. Details on how to download and play the demo can be found there, too.
“Back in 1996, that intro would have made me sh*t my pants,” revealed HansUberschlage, in the comments section on YouTube.
“Praise the Shackled Sun,” declared Oborowatabinostk.
“This would be a core memory for kids in the 90s. I got goose bumps at 9:50,” exclaimed GawdammitHalen.
Elden Ring is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 at some point this year.
