Cyberpunk 2077: People of Night City is a wonderful new free expansion

This is a really well considered addition to the game

CD Projekt RED really achieved what many thought impossible with Cyberpunk 2077’s redemption arc.

Night City is one of the most immersive game locations I have ever explored, and a far cry from the glitchy mess it once was.

Every corner is carefully crafted and packed with detail, whether that’s in the form of a lesser known quest, an NPC encounter, or a small environmental feature that reveals an additional piece of lore.

In fact, Night City is so detailed that devs have revealed that not all of the game’s Easter eggs have been found.

I’m sure more will be added in the upcoming Update 2.3 too, whenever that finally arrives following its delay.

With all of this in mind, I shouldn’t think anyone is criticising Night City’s immersion.

If you do crave more though as, let’s face it, you can never have enough, then you may want to check out the ‘People of Night City’ mod which adds a series of small immersive encounters to Cyberpunk 2077.

We recently reported on the ‘Ghosts of Night City’ mod which functions in a similar way.

Created by CCLordShen, that mod added five lore-friendly scenes, including “shrines, mental breakdowns, a camp, and forgotten corners that tell the quiet stories of those the city chewed up and left behind”.

‘People of Night City’ is from the same creator, adding another series of characters and scenes that players can stumble across.

“This mod explores the themes of resilience, loss, and the will to keep going in a city that never stops grinding people down,” the description reads.

“These encounters are subtle and scattered, snapshots of lives unfolding just out of sight. From a small grave in the Badlands visited by a famous superstar, to body parts stuffed in a cardboard box, to a man on a one-sided mission to expose Arasaka—these stories remind us that not everyone in Night City is a legend. Most are just trying to survive.”

I absolutely adore mods like this; you don’t always need a loud flashy DLC-sized expansion or a thrilling new questline.

This is someone who clearly deeply understands and appreciates the game’s tone and lore, and has set about adding a commentary on the human experience, fleshing out the already intoxicatingly detailed Night City.

I won’t spoil the full nature of the encounters but they’re titled as follows: ‘What’s Left of Lizzy’, ‘She Never Saw It Coming’, ‘Crazy Milo’, ‘She Swung Until He Stopped Moving’, and ‘The Smell of Chlorine’.

The idea is that you’ll natively stumble across these in the game but if you want to check them out for yourself, full locations are listed in the mod’s description.

As I said, ‘People of Night City’ can be downloaded via PC on NexusMods right now. I’ll be checking it out.
